What Is Jacksonville Florida known for?

Introduction

The state of Florida is known for a lot of things. Sunshine, beaches, and theme parks are just a few of the many attributes that draw people to this part of the country. But what about Jacksonville? What is it known for? Well, there's plenty here to explore and enjoy!

Introduction

Jacksonville, Florida is a city of about 800,000 residents. It is the most populous city in the state of Florida, and has been for a long time. The city was founded by the French in 1733, who named it after King James II of England. In 1822, the city became part of the U.S., and has grown exponentially ever since - especially during World War 2 when thousands of soldiers were stationed here.

Jaguars football

The city of Jacksonville is also home to the Jaguars, an NFL football team. The Jaguars play in the AFC South Division and are based out of EverBank Field, which they share with their rivals, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The city got its first taste of NFL football in 1995 when it was awarded an expansion franchise by then-NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue. The team's history has been rocky at times; it took four years for them to make the playoffs for their first time and they've only made it twice total since then (2002 & 2011). Despite this lack of success on the field, much credit has been given to Jacksonville's rabid fan base who pack EverBank Field on game days—the stadium has consistently been among the top 10 most attended stadiums each year since opening in 1995.

Beaches

Jacksonville beach is a great place for all of your beach-related activities. You can swim, sunbathe, fish and boat on the beaches in Jacksonville. The waters are also great for boating, surfing, and snorkeling.

Great weather

Jacksonville's weather is great. The average temperature is in the low 70s, but it can get hot in the summer. There's a lot of sunshine and plenty of parks and green spaces to explore.

As you can see, there's a lot to the city of Jacksonville and what it's known for. While we hope that you'll get to know the city better during your time here, there are some things that we can guarantee about Jacksonville.

Warmer temps

  • Jacksonville is a warm place to live

While other cities in Florida are known for their frequent rain and cold weather, Jacksonville has a sunny, warm climate that makes it an ideal spot for living. In fact, the city gets around 1,400 hours of sunshine each year—that's about 37 percent more than New York City! And with its humid subtropical climate, you can expect to see plenty of flowers blooming outside your window. If you're looking for something tropical and comfortable during the winter months (or any time), this might just be the place for you.

Ocean sunrises and sunsets

  • Sunrise and sunset. Everyone loves them! The sun peeking up over the horizon, casting its rays onto the ocean in a way that makes it look like it’s on fire… or maybe that’s just me.

  • The beach. Florida is known around the country for its beautiful beaches, so whether you want to relax by the water or play in it, Jacksonville has your needs covered. From swimming to fishing to running around on an obstacle course made out of sand castles, there are plenty of activities for everyone in Jax Beach!

Jacksonville is a great place to boat. The city has many waterways, marinas, and boating clubs. You can take the family out on the water for an afternoon of fishing or have your friends over for a day of sunbathing and swimming. In fact, there are many events throughout the year that are centered around boating in Jacksonville.

Fishing

Fishing is one of the most popular activities in Jacksonville. There are several spots to fish, including the ocean and river. If you're looking to catch redfish, snook or trout, Jacksonville has plenty of options!

Golfing

Florida is known as the "Golf Capital of the South," and Jacksonville has a lot to do with that. There are many golf courses in Jacksonville, so if you're looking for some recreation or want to check out one of the many golf tournaments held in town, this is a great place to visit.

There are so many places to choose from when it comes to playing golf in Jacksonville. You can try out Amelia Island's Ocean Creek Golf Club or play on one of over 5,000 holes at Omni Amelia Island Plantation Resort & Spa (which also has an 18-hole course). If you're looking for something closer to home but still want an enjoyable experience, check out Mayport Naval Station's course—it's only 15 minutes away from Downtown Jacksonville!
