The state of Florida is known for a lot of things. Sunshine, beaches, and theme parks are just a few of the many attributes that draw people to this part of the country. But what about Jacksonville? What is it known for? Well, there's plenty here to explore and enjoy!

Introduction

Jacksonville, Florida is a city of about 800,000 residents. It is the most populous city in the state of Florida, and has been for a long time. The city was founded by the French in 1733, who named it after King James II of England. In 1822, the city became part of the U.S., and has grown exponentially ever since - especially during World War 2 when thousands of soldiers were stationed here.

Jaguars football

The city of Jacksonville is also home to the Jaguars, an NFL football team. The Jaguars play in the AFC South Division and are based out of EverBank Field, which they share with their rivals, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The city got its first taste of NFL football in 1995 when it was awarded an expansion franchise by then-NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue. The team's history has been rocky at times; it took four years for them to make the playoffs for their first time and they've only made it twice total since then (2002 & 2011). Despite this lack of success on the field, much credit has been given to Jacksonville's rabid fan base who pack EverBank Field on game days—the stadium has consistently been among the top 10 most attended stadiums each year since opening in 1995.
